Information on Ebola

.What is Ebola virus disease?
Ebola virus disease (formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever) is a severe, often fatal illness, with a death rate of up to 90%. The illness affects humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees).
Ebola first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks, one in a village near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the other in a remote area of Sudan.
The origin of the virus is unknown but fruit bats (Pteropodidae) are considered the likely host of the Ebola virus, based on available evidence.

The partnership with Grassroots has been strengthened. A TOT 1 was conducted during the period. Samaritan’s Purse was also included in the training. They are now working in 7 communities. Grassroots and CHA are also now working in over 300 communities with a modified CHE strategy. New opportunities are opening with partners from USA to start new programs in Liberia. A ME training was conducted in Monrovia to help boost the work there and create opportunity for people In this country to see the resources available there and how to use them through training.

The Che team are presently working to help alleviate the difficulties of Liberia who are affected by the Ebola Virus Disease  by providing food and medication to those who are isolated. Picture booklets are being circulated and distributed too.

The partnership with Mennonite Church there has been strengthened and the trainers have been taken through a TOT 1 and now working in 3 locations. There are16 trainers for 4 different organizational located in different parts of the country. They are now starting community engagements in new areas.

My trip in March had opened their minds to holistic ministry which they now see as solution to the dependency syndrome prevalent there today. We know there will always be resistance to changes- moving away from Relief to development is not that easy. Physical health is a challenge as the lifestyle of the people endangers their health.
